Uber Driver Arrested after Passenger killed in DUI Accident with Semi

A Florida Uber driver was arrested in March 2020 for his alleged role in a deadly DUI car crash in January. Sadly, that collision cost his passenger his life.

Clint Fischer Jr., 27, was the driver for the popular rideshare service. He was driving 30-year-old Estevan Pascual from Orlando to Haines City, Florida when the accident occurred.

Per the police report, officials claim that Fischer was driving under the influence when he hit the back of a nearly stopped semi-truck around midnight.

Pascual’s injuries included blunt force trauma to the head.  and died at the scene. The accident resulted in his death at the scene at U.S. 17/92 and Shamrock Drive. The drunk driver is facing felony DUI charges.

About the DUI Investigation

During the investigation, police found that the vehicle had been drifting off the road and also showed no signs of braking before colliding with the semi.

The car: a rented, red Toyota. In it, law enforcement found a bag belonging to the driver with drug paraphernalia and a glass smoking device containing a powdery residue. This later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police also took a blood sample from Fischer as part of the DUI investigation. The results of that test showed him to be under the influence of both meth and marijuana (aka THC). Test results labeled it a “greater than therapeutic amount”.

“As law enforcement officers, we see the merits of these ride-sharing applications for those who are drinking or without a license. [We] should be able to have the expectation that their drivers be alert, competent and sober behind the wheel. In this case, the driver’s actions cost a man his life.”

Haines City Police Chief, Jim Elensky

Fischer is presently being held on DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia charges.
